Today, we preview the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester.
Spurs will hope for a turn of luck when they host Leicester City on Sunday and rekindle their top-four ambitions.
The North Londoners dropped points once again as Brentford held them to a goalless draw.
Leicester were in midweek action against Roma in the Conference League semifinals, where they salvaged a first leg 1-1 draw.
Spur’s roller coaster form
A few weeks back, a Champions League spot seemed guaranteed for Antonio Conte’s men.
Arch-rivals and fellow top-four contenders Arsenal lost three matches on the bounce while Spurs went on a winning streak and climbed up to the fourth position.
Dejan Kulusevski’s inclusion added a new dimension to the already impressive Spurs attack featuring Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.
But Brighton and Brentford dealt two back to back blows and have severely dented Spurs’ Champions League prospects.
Arsenal’s return to form has made the situation even more difficult for Tottenham.
The Gunners picked up two big wins against Chelsea and Manchester United to displace the Lilywhites from the fourth spot.
Before the Brighton match, Spurs had scored 25 Premier League goals in their previous seven outings, but in their last two matches, they failed to make any on-target efforts.
Conte has to figure out a way to rediscover his side’s attacking prowess unless it could turn out to be another disappointing evening for Spurs.
Tottenham have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the tie.
Matt Doherty, Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga will continue their long-term hiatus from the game as they wait out lengthy injury rehabilitation processes.
Leicester focussed on European football
Recent heavy rotations in the league suggest Leicester’s priorities have shifted towards Europe this season.
Brendan Rodger’s side faced Roma in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League at the King Power Stadium, and the meeting ended in a 1-1 draw.
Lorenzo Pellegrini had silenced the roaring King Power crowd with a first-half goal.
Leicester got back into the game after the interval when Gianluca Mancini accidentally put the ball on the back of his net.
Leicester have endured a lacklustre season in the Premier League.
They are currently 10th and trail the seventh place, the last European spot available in the Premier League, by 10 points.
Even though they have some games in hand, Leicesters’ chances of qualifying for Europe through the league appear slim.
So, going all out for Conference League glory seems more sensible from Leicester’s perspective.
With the trip to Stadio Olimpico in mind, Brendan Rodgers might choose to rest some of his best players against Tottenham.
Leicester’s injury concerns
The latest entry to Leicester’s agonisingly long injury list is Timothy Castagne.
The fullback suffered an eye injury and left the pitch after 21 minutes against Roma.
However, he could make the matchday squad in London as scans indicated no severe damage.
Jamie Vardy, who returned from injury lately, could be rested for the second leg.
Our EPL Prediction Tottenham vs Leicester
Leicester have not been at their best away from home this season.
They won only once in their last 11 Premier League trips.
The Foxes did win away at Spurs last season, but the circumstances are not the same this time around.
Tottenham will be more desperate to win since they don’t have an alternate route to Europe, unlike their Sunday guests.
We expect Spurs to win against a heavily changed Leicester side.
We predict a 1-0 win for Spurs.
