South Africa is currently playing a T20 series against India.
SA comprehensively beat India in the 1st two matches but in the third match, India bounced back.
The series now stands at 2-1 in favour of SA.
One of the big talking points of the series has been the superlative batting performances of the South Africans.
In the absence of Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram, the Africans were expected to struggle.
Yet, they have exceeded expectations and made the world sit up to their talent.
Let’s look at some of the top South African T20 batters of the current team.
Quinton de Kock:
He has played 62 matches and scored 1849 runs with a highest score of 79 not out.
Only JP Duminy (1934 runs) has scored more T20 runs for SA than De Kock in international cricket.
De Kock made his debut in T20 cricket against New Zealand at Kingsmead on Dec 21, 2012.
He scored 28 not out on debut.
His strike rate is 134 which is quite impressive.
David Miller:
He has played 82 T20 internationals and scored 1809 runs.
His highest score is 101 not out.
Miller is the third highest run getter for SA in T20 internationals.
He was one of the biggest hits for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and is known for his aggressive batting style.
His strike rate of 143 is quite incredible.
On his debut T20 match against West Indies, he made 33 runs.
Besides a century, Miller also has 4 fifties to his credit.
Reeza Hendriks
Reeza Hendricks arrived on the world stage with a bang.
On his ODI debut, he cracked a century against Sri Lanka, smashing 102 in just 89 balls.
Since then, he has become a T20 regular for SA.
In 42 matches, he has scored 1076 runs with a strike rate of 121.
His highest score is 74.
Hendricks has built a reputation as a destructive opener and is equally good at pacing a knock.
Hendriks rarely slogs and yet, is able to score at a fast clip using proper cricket shots and his innate intelligence.
Rassie Van de Dussen
Rassie is vastly experienced and can be termed as a late bloomer.
He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in October 2018 at the age of 29.
He scored an impressive fifty on his T20I debut and followed that up with a 93 in his ODI debut against Pakistan.
Playing in a wide variety of conditions across countries has made him a highly adaptable batsman at the top of the order or in the middle.
In 37 T20 matches, he has made 1010 runs with a highest score of 94 not out.
He averages a phenomenal 38 in T20 cricket and has a strike rate of 131, which is amazing for a batter who was considered to be a grafter.
Once Quinton de Kock and Markram come back into the fray, SA will boast of one of the strongest T20 batting squads.
